When Your Mind Won't Stop Talking
Because sometimes the hardest conversation is the one happening inside our own minds.
This morning, someone shared something many people silently experience:
“It’s like there’s a second person in my head working 24/7. The thoughts never stop.”
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Anxiety is more than feeling stressed or worried. It can feel like your mind is constantly searching for problems, replaying conversations, imagining worst-case scenarios, and trying to prepare for things that may never happen. It is exhausting.
One common experience in anxiety is spiral thinking.
Spiral thoughts are repetitive thoughts that keep circling in your mind, often becoming bigger and more overwhelming with each turn. A small worry can quickly grow into a chain of “what ifs,” leaving you feeling trapped in your own thoughts.
“What if I fail?”
“What if something goes wrong?”
“What if they are upset with me?”
“What if I can’t handle it?”
The more attention we give these thoughts, the louder they can become.
But thoughts are not facts.
Having anxious thoughts does not mean they are true. It does not mean something bad will happen. It means your mind is trying to protect you, even if it’s doing so in an unhelpful way.
The first step is not to fight every thought. The first step is to notice them, acknowledge them, and remind yourself that you are more than the voice of anxiety.
If your mind feels loud today, remember:
You are not your anxious thoughts.
You are not alone.
And you do not have to carry everything by yourself.
